According to the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), waste is a key issue for the hotel sector, as food waste costs it £318 million each year alone. When taking into account food procurement, labour, utilities and waste management costs, this cost equates to £4,000 per tonne.
By developing an efficient waste and recycling plan with an accredited and licenced waste management company, hotels can save thousands of pounds a year by avoiding costly landfills.
Hotels, just like any other business, must abide by the government’s Duty of Care waste regulations, wherein a company must:
Classify waste and know if waste is hazardous or not
Register a premises that stores hazardous waste
Apply for a permit if it plans to store treat, transport, or dispose of waste itself
Store waste in a safe and secure manner
Follow strict rules for removing waste off a premises
Check that the business management company it uses is licensed.
Business Waste keeps companies up to date with the latest waste and recycling news, legislations, technologies, and removal techniques.
